Anita stepped into the club as a woman left. She did a double take as she was sure the woman was Emily Shale. Of all the things she expected, she didn't expect the CEO of Shale to be stepping out of a burlesque club in it's off hours. The club was certainly more than it seemed. Anita shrugged and rang the bell at the employee's entrance. A guard came out to meet her.
"Hi, Anita Raikov. Adrian is my brother, wanted to see if he wanted to have lunch."
The guard nodded and let her in, giving her directions to the lounge. She thanked him and headed that way. She adjusted the radio strap on her shoulder as she entered a long; she was on duty, but was okay to get lunch, but would have to leave if a call came through. In the lounge she saw some sort of meeting happening. A holographic display that reminded her of Tony Stark's in the old Marvel movies had everyone's attention, so no one noticed her come in. Adrian was there too. She leaned against the wall by the door, intrigued to see what was going on.
The display showed two neurons, one badly damaged. Anita watched and listened. Healing. They were wanting to heal the damaged neuron. Pieces began to fit together. Kallisti was a bastion for channelers to learn how to use their magic. Magic healing. Wow, things were changing. The man talking seemed to think that their normal way of healing wouldn't work. Anita didn't know much about magic healing, but healing something severed like that was a simple fix - if hard to execute.
"Looks exactly the same as a severed artery," Anita broke the silence, causing heads to turn as one in her direction.
"Anita, what are you doing here?" Adrian, the only one who recognized her, said.
Anita walked forward, wrapping her brother in a hug. "Wanted to see if I could buy my little brother lunch today,"
Adrian chuckled. "It was a half hour!
"It was still the day before, it counts.
They released the hug and Adrian rolled his eyes. "Everyone, this is my twin sister, Anita," he said to the group.
Anita scanned the faces and did a double take on one. A half-naked man covered in scars. It was not his lack of dress, but recognition that caused her to look again. She hadn't even told Adrian about the dream that had encouraged her to tell her brother to come to Kallisti. In that dream she had seen Adrian learning from a man - and now here he was in the flesh.
"Thanks," she said to Adrian, coming closer to the group, the Star of Life on her coat revealing her profession. "As I was saying, severed arteries look exactly like this. Can't just reconnect the ends even if you have enough left for the parts to reach back together. It will break again when pressure is applied to it. I know nothing about healing magic, but medically, this is fixed with a graft. You need a piece to fill in the gap, and then need something to hold it in place."
