Itching for a Fight
#51
Elyse lay down next to Rachel. Her words were concerning. Elyse didn't think Rachel wanted to hurt herself, and truth be told, Elyse didn't think Rachel was planning on doing so, but she was in a dangerous place. She was tired of hurting and wanted to give up. The problem was Rachel couldn't see the improvements. She couldn't see it when her own personality broke through or when she felt something besides the fear.

Even as she spoke, Elyse had sensed it. Sadness. It wasn't a positive emotion, but it was something besides the fear. She was sad of what she had been happening to her family. There was guilt there too. She blamed herself. Elyse had some experience there. She was worried though. If Rachel wasn't seeing past the fear, her hopelessness might become something worse.

The pair settled into the silence, and Elyse took out her wallet to text Jared and Emily. They needed to know this. They needed to adjust what they were doing and Rachel knew they shared these types of things.

Hey guys - Rachel had some withdrawal symptoms. We talked a bit after and I'm concerned. She's giving up. I convinced her to keep trying, but I'm not sure how long it will hold. She can't see she's getting better, and I'm worried if we don't find a way to get her past feeling fear it might get worse. I don't know what to do about it, but I'll help anyway I can. We're laying down quietly right now. I'm sure she'll need to head home soon. Please let me know anyway I can help.

Elyse put her wallet down and gave Rachel a hug. Rachel returned it, but there wasn't much life to it. "It will be okay, hon," Elyse said, wiping some tears from Rachel's eyes. She was very concerned for her friend.
