Great question. Yes if your character isn't reincarnated, ancestors are a great alternative. Please designate as such in the post title or description for easy distinction.
And past lives don't have to be restricted to Age of Gods (5-6th Ages), in case anyone was wondering. It can be from any Age in any turning of the wheel.
So if you wrote from the time of the books and there is some conflict with cannon, chalk it up to being a different turning. Just try to keep to the general events outlined in each Age.
