Amputation [Belizna]
#9
Rachel felt her anxiety lessen even if it didn't quite go away yet. Her reaction was a direct result of her trauma and nothing that Adrian did, but Adrian spoke with a welcoming tone that eased her discomfort. She looked up then, noting the man had begun to move and pulled out a second cup that he began to fill. As he did, Rachel took a few calming breaths to get to some semblance of normal.

The ring was prominent on his finger and he made no effort to hide it. It meant he was from a prominent family and, by the accent, was likely from England. That could explain how he knew Natalie - at least - assuming that he did know her. The minimal evidence she saw made Rachel think he was an investor. She doubted he was a future student (like she was).

Adrian place the mug on a saucer like it was tea - how posh - and Rachel gave him a smile, her posture still nervous, but significantly more relaxed than it was before. Rachel knew she couldn't diminish it all yet, but she (theoretically) should get better the more that she got to know the man in front of her. "Thank you," she said as he placed it down and she took his offered hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you - I'm Rachel. And no - we haven't crossed paths yet."

After letting go, she took a sip of her coffee. She would sometimes have cream or sugar with it, but decided not to at this point. She had too much on her mind to allow the simple action. She debated apologizing for her unusual behavior, but decided against it. It was a rabbit hole she didn't want to go down right now with a stranger. It was extremely personal and even then she was selective on who she told.

"What brings you here, Adrian?" she asked. "Are you a friend of Natalie's or Jay's?" he clearly wasn't one of the construction workers. He had to know at least one of them.
