Marta knew what forgiveness was for. It was her letting go. She had needed that and this had provided an opportunity for her to do so. She hoped Matias don’t hate her for that. But she had felt the time was right, and this place was perfect for it. She smiled at his acceptance of her forgiveness.
The tone changed quickly as the other man spoke. Marta didn’t know what had happened to Jay Carpenter. She knew only that he had been there when the cartel had been taken down. She wanted to talk to him. She wanted to know if he’d help in her fight against the cartels. And this stranger knew him. He was there too. Maybe he could help too.
”Jay Carpenter!” the name came out louder and with more excitement than she had meant. Her eyes looked between the two men, curiosity in her gaze.
”Marta…” Ricky’s voice brought her out of her thoughts.
She looked at Ricky who was giving her a gaze telling her it was time to go. Marta looked back at the men. The air was thick with tension now. She hoped this didn’t go poorly. She truly thought they were both good people, but she understood the pain the cartels could inflict. Whatever happened here wasn’t meant for her eyes. ”Yeah, I probably can’t emotionally handle what may happen now. I’m sorry if I did something wrong,” she looked down. It was hard not to blame herself. She looked to Matias. ”Ill pray for you.” and then to the other man. ”And I’ll pray for you too. Goodnight - and Merry Christmas.” Marta took hold of Splash’s handle and followed as Ricky led her to the exit. She silently said a prayer that everything would be okay.
