Jensen accepted the card without hesitation, the smooth weight of it settling into his palm before Kristian’s fingers closed his own around it. There was something in the gesture that he chose not to read into it. Instead, he took it for what it appeared to be: a courtesy, sincerely meant.
“I appreciate that,” he said, “And I’ll tell you something in return.” His gaze met Kristian’s, steady and without embellishment. “If you’re ever hurt again… I have a feeling I might know about it. But don’t leave it to chance. If you need help or anything, reach out. I will always help if I can.”
He slipped the card into his pocket, and offered a faint but genuine smile. “Safe travels tonight, Kristian.”
There was no suspicion in his tone, no wariness in his eyes only the assurance of a man who believed in the good he could do, and in the worth of offering it freely. As far as Jensen was concerned, they were simply two men parting ways after one had done the other a kindness.
He walked him to the door, and when it clicked shut behind Kristian, the loft was silent again. Jensen glanced once at the card in his pocket before setting it aside on the counter.
