Anita listens to his explanation, but she wasn’t really sure what much of it meant. She didn’t know what he meant by “threshold” or “veil” in particular - at least in the context of religion. She understood that they worshipped the Ascendancy as some sort of deity. Even though she didn’t understand it, she could hear the care in his voice. He spoke it almost as a litany. The words were there, but spoken with a deep reverence.
Anita smiled at his description of a Veilwarden not being a reward, but a responsibility. Cor was the same way - treating his job as Fire Chief as a responsibility more than a title. It was something she liked about him. She found herself liking Quillion.
”You’re very welcome,” she said again with a light hearted grin at the flicker of humor in his voice. She sighed. ”Im sorry - forgot to introduce myself. My name is Anita Raikov.”
