Her eyes widened a little at the edges. Clearly such grandeur as that had never occurred to her. Could it be so simple as the way she made the plants flourish? Ultimately Cali would serve in whatever capacity the Brotherhood thought best. She was a conduit for this blessing, and it went without saying she would intend to use it selflessly.
The wonder of her expression receded a little at mention of their father. He refused to speak to her, had not since she joined the Brotherhood, and by now the estrangement was mutual. Either he sensed the shift of her mood, or it was simply a happy coincidence; either way, the bump against her shoulder flickered another smile. “I promise,” she laughed. And then they were back to the rapid pace of their conversation. Cali had no idea who The Wicked Truth was beyond Liam’s clear awe. “In his head?” she repeated. “Are you sure it wasn’t just part of the fancy dress?”
