Anna returned Cade’s hug. Anna knew she hadn’t done anything wrong, but it was still there in her head. The poor woman’s lifeless gaze was just there, and she couldn’t do anything about it. An officer approached and Cade began to make a statement. Anna just listened. The attacker was a monster. It wasn’t human. Cade didn’t know that, and she couldn’t hear it in his voice. She wanted to tell him, but not with the cop here who would think she was a nut job.
The officer asked her a question directly as Anita came back and began to retake her numbers. ”Umm…the eyes were weird. Like they were all pupils. Dilated? Is that the word?”
Anita began to do her blood pressure and Anna sat still and quiet as she finished. Anita told Anna ber numbers were normal and everything was fine. Anna nodded. And turned back to the officer.
”He was really pale like Cade said. Like he was sick or something.”
