Jacinda took control, and Tenzin was content to let her.
She mostly left Rune to her own devices, finding some small comfort in sharing the space without interaction. Humans usually liked their flapping tongues. She showered free of her own mud stink once the other girl had finished with the bathroom, then found somewhere to rest. Eyes closed, her mind stretched out to the warm den of the wolfdream. Perhaps her pack roamed the waking world, for it was Silver alone who welcomed her. The ripple of his soft fur filled her heart with such a deep yearning it released from her muzzle like a whimper. Foolish pup, he told her.
Then pushed her away.
The nudge sent her tumbling back into wakefulness. It was still dark. She could smell by the sharp tang of frustration that Rune was awake. Perhaps she’d never gone to sleep. Tenzin sat up, disconcerted. Deft fingers braided her hair anew, capturing the black sheet of it away from her face. The contacts ached against her eyes, but she did not have the luxury of dispensing with the deception.
“Don’t know.” She shrugged. “Hospital ask questions. Take if need, but don’t think it needs. Maybe go see? Friendly face might be of welcome.” Her lips hitched a wolfish grin, a finger gesturing her own mouth. “Though might try more friendly smile. Smell nicer now, though.”
She stood, stretching the faint ache from her long limbs. “Need air.”
