Welcome to the Guardian

Meera laughed heartily as Eiji mocked her choice of words. Quoting Freud? Clearly, the puppy had not been well read, for if he was, he would have not mocked one of the great Psychological masters of the early twentieth century. She reached into her desk, fumbling around for a moment before tossing a paperback at Eiji-chan. The cover of the book read ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’ by Freud.

“Do you think me ignorant, Eiji-chan? That is yours to keep… Please… Look it over before our next session.”

The wolf-pup rose from his seat and started circling her wheel-chair. Panic rose up into her throat like a maggot working its way out of a trash can… It took everything inside of herself, perfect control and perfect sympathy, to prevent her hand from reaching for the letter opener that sat atop the desk.

Sweat seemed to trickle down the pup’s brow as he considered his surroundings. Meera remained calm, as calm as could be, as the pup took stock of his surroundings. Was the werewolf having a psychotic break?

The pup was lost in his own thoughts before snapping out of it and coming to an agreeance with her own diagnosis. Her eyes shifted to the letter opener and back to the man-wolf as he stood over her; he started to speak of his PTSD. The wolf smiled at her as he brought up prescriptions.

Oh, Meera was not the type to pull out a pad and prescribe something to numb the senses… no… She had other methods…

Still standing over her, in her wheel-chair, the pup began to recount reality from his own perspective. Despite her calm demeanor, this entire situation had made her uneasy. The Atharim had recommended him to her, true, but that simply meant she was free to do as she willed.

The pup recounted his memories of a silver wolf and his blurred visions of the man with a snake-tattoo, no doubt a member of her own cult… Her hand twitched as he came to stand next to her.

“When you say something is off, what do you mean?” Eiji asked.

Meera’s right hand darted forward and picked up the letter opener. Without thought, she slashed the pup’s throat open. Blood began to pour from the wound in the pup’s neck. Sweet, delicious, crimson liquid spraying forth. Meera smiled. Her own white garments were almost stained, but she wheeled back a few meters to avoid the spray that had issued forth.

Reaching, she drew a finger across the pup’s throat, blood collecting upon her index finger, before she brought the digit to her mouth and tasted the life that issued forth.

                “Shut up, dog.”

Coppery with hints of something that tasted of moss, Meera smiled as she licked the red syrup from her fingertip. Ecstacy overtook her, that familiar light springing up behind her right shoulder… With an effortless calm, she wove the Elements together and laid the magic upon Eiji‘s neck, sealing the wound she had just caused. The blood stopped flowing, and thus his life persevered; the man wouldn't even have a scar. Another weave and the blood lifted from his clothing, condensing into a tight red sphere before him. It floated before his body before dropping into her palm. She pocketed it and smirked as he gasped for breath. Without missing a beat, she wove again, all five elements, laying the spell upon his brain just so.

“I said shut up,” She spat as the pup gasped for air. He found it and quieted his tongue, looking upon her with adoration, “You shall answer my questions and then forget all of this. Are you wolf-kin? The thing that runs with wolves in your dreams? Do you talk to wolves in your waking life? What is the name of the wolf that you commune with? What is your goal in life? Who do you work for? The Russian government? What secrets do you hold? What is your connection to the Ascension? Can you secure me an audience with the man or not? Answer my questions and forget everything that has happened within the last ten minutes. When you are done, you shall sit down in the chair opposite me and feel as if you had a migraine. Ask me for medication for your head.”

The spell settled upon the puppy’s brain and Meera waited. Thoughts of prying the flesh off of this pitiful subject danced within her own mind, sustaining the light of God behind her shoulder, though she did not indulge herself. Meera had already healed one wound today, she was not certain she could heal a second… Still… This spell- this weave- was not perfect. She could only apply it in the most specific of circumstances. Lucky for her, the shock of the attack surely overcame Eiji and threw him off balance enough to unsettle his mind. Life or death situations were ideal for such a spell.

So long as she did not misjudge the situation, he would answer all the questions she had asked truthfully. After he was done talking, he would find himself with a hole in his memory, not remembering the last ten minutes, as she had instructed. The pup would chalk it up to a crippling migraine.

Meera did not really think that this inferior test subject held a connection to the ruler of the CCD, but she had to ask… She had to have answers from him that were factual and unclouded by his own self-doubt.

Regardless of whatever this puppy said, she would continue this exercise with him. Every time the man came to her, she would open his throat, seal it with magick, and then assault his brain with her spells in an effort to extract any information that might prove useful to her. By the end of their time together, he would feel mentally healed without her doing a damn thing and she would have advanced her career without her Superiors knowing what methods she employed. Simple and clean.

                It was all too perfect.

                "Arrigatou gosaimashita, Eiji-chan,"
Meera said with a smirk.

"She had tortured hundreds, maybe thousands, in the name of understanding and reason. Torture made sense. You truly saw what a person was made of, in more ways than one, when you began to slice into them. That was a phrase she'd used on numerous occasions. It usually made her smile."
