Hello, all!

I read through Nikolai's bio last night, but the rest will take a while.

I think one of my characters is starting to stir, but we'll see.

Thank you, everyone, for giving links and tips. This is helping a lot. I'll probably be slow, because this is a lot of reading. lol

Okay, new ask. I'm having trouble reading through some of the suggested threads because modern politics turn off my brain. I really tried, but... sorry...

Are there any threads that aren't so full of politics or even organized crime that i could read?

House Party isn't about politics. It's just a hacker party with a few players causing trouble.

What type of thread are you looking for?

Are you looking for examples of play or just a feel for the game?

It's been 10+ years since I jumped in, but I found that making a character and just jumping in was the best way to go. We were smaller then so not so much going on, but I still think that it's easier to get up to speed by just reading the active threads and catching up on other important things later.

I was so anxious when Aria jumped in with Thal and Rune back in the day. But it turned out great. And then the next thread was easier to jump into until it didn't bother me anymore. And now my goal for Nox is to meet as many PCs as possible.

I'd do what Thal and Asc suggested read the base site get a feel for the world. Think about what type of character you want to play. Make that character. You can ask Gio or any of us for help in writing that bio. It doesn't need to be as detailed as some of ours are. And then jump into an ongoing thread or make your own. Thal and I almost always have an available PC we can throw into a new thread.

We'd love to help you get started. Be that with finding a good thread for what you are looking for. Or helping you jump right in.

ONE DAY when I'm feelilng ambitious I might see if I can get AI to scrape FA and summarize every thread in order to get a summary of what has happened.

Thanks, Nox.

It's been a while since I've roleplayed anything, and most roleplays I've been a part of have been in Third Age Wheel of Time settings, so translating Wheel of Time to a more...urban fantasy setting, I guess, has been a struggle. I have a 4-day weekend this weekend, so I'll take some time to read and see where my character takes me. I do have the beginnings of one in my head, but I want to feel a bit more confident with the setting and everyone's writing style before I write her up.

I wouldn't worry about writing style. No one is going to be a critic. The only real rule is it's 3rd person POV.

We color our dialog. I'm not sure why it's just something everyone does. It's fun to pick a color. You can check out http://bada55.io/ for some easy to remember and fun colors.

Easiest way to think about FA (for me) is Supernatural with a Wheel of Time twist set in a very near future world. ← is why I joined FA way back when.

* The USA is dystopian at this point, Moscow is the center of the world.
* Texas is part of the CCD (the empire the Ascendancy runs)
* Monster are real but not everyone knows it.
* Magic is real and it's new to everyone especially the mundane.
* Magic is channeling except there is no white tower or black tower to teach anyone.
* Most channelers are wilders (meaning they sparked before knowing what they are doing and they have a block.)
* We are allowing those who can learn to channel now but there is currently no way to detect if a person can learn, and no one has really learned they can learn yet, but those characters do exist.
* You can be a new channeler who sparks in game and can be taught by finding a teacher and doesn't go through more than one sickness phase and doesn't have a block.
* We have a group of monster hunters called the Atharim, there are lots of factions inside it. Their primary goal is to hunt and kill Gods (aka Channelers) and their creations (monsters).
* We have a few other classes of characters of the supernatural variety wolfkin, dreamwalkers, prophets, singers, faun, fury, sentient (i know I'll miss a few). We can give you a run down if any of them sound fun.

And if I'm being "pushy" please please say so. It's not often we get real new blood who might stick around Smile So it's exciting to have potential new writers.

Actually, you have no idea how much the Supernatural comparison helped just now. I love that show! lol And thank you for those summary points as well. While I don't understand 100% of them yet, it's a great starting point. I felt like there were two wires in my brain that just refused to connect, but I think you may just have done it.

As for my character, I have a main one that has followed me since the early 2010s, and she's kind of grown with me. I'd like to make her as "another thread in the Pattern" so to speak. She always starts out as a Seanchan damane who has been rescued by an Aes Sedai and is training in the Tower. My vague idea for her here is that she'd survive her channeling sickness, then be used by someone around her for her abilities by blackmail or financial means or something. I don't know about details or where to stick her yet, but that's what I've got so far.
